John Colette

Chair, Motion Media Design, Savannah College of Art and Design

Since 2011, John Colette has lead SCAD’s Motion Media and Design Department. Prior to coming to SCAD, John’s academic and professional work spanned film, digital media, television and radio. He is credited with establishing the digital media department at the National Film School in Australia. He served as creative director for Pixelmill Films, was a senior producer at CDP Media and was head of digital media at Australian Film. His academic positions have included senior lecturer for Digital Media at the University Of New South Wales College Of Fine Arts, and he did project delivery in visitor experience at the Museum of Sydney. He also was a project assessor and consultant for NSW Film and Television Office, The Australian Film Commission, Film Victoria, Australian Centre for the Moving Image, and Melbourne and Screen Tasmania. As a writer, he has been a contributor to The Australian Financial Review and The Communications Law Bulletin.

Other credits include being named a 1998 Fulbright Scholar; receiving the Australia Writers and Art Directors School award; serving as a member of Digital Content Industry Action Agenda Task Force, convened in 2004 to advise the Australian Federal Government; and serving as a consultant to the Australian Federal Government Creative Industries Cluster Study. He is involved in the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group in Graphics and American Chamber of Commerce in Australia.

John received his B.A. in Mass Communications from Macquarie University (1986) and his M.F.A., from the University of New South Wales (1996)
