Charles Vess’ award-winning work has graced the covers and pages of many comic books including Marvel’s Spider-Man, Raven Banner, and DC Books of Magic, Swamp Thing, and Sandman. Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess’ “Stardust – Being a Romance Within the Realm of Faerie ” an illustrated novel with 175 paintings, was made into the acclaimed film “Stardust” by Paramount Pictures in 2007, directed by Matthew Vaughn.

Charles’ art has been featured in gallery and museum exhibitions across the nation and Europe, including exhibitions in New York City: “Modern Fairy Tales” with Michael Kaluta at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art, and Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art” at the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators. Charles’ awards include the Ink Pot, Three World Fantasies, the Mythopoeic, two Spectrum Annuals, two Chesleys, Locus (Best Artist), and two Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards.

Other publications include two New York Times bestselling picture books penned by Neil Gaiman: “Blueberry Girl” and “Instructions;” “Drawing Down the Moon: The Art of Charles Vess” a 200-page retrospective of his art published by Dark Horse Books; and “Tumbleweed Baby” by Anna Myers. “The Cats of Tanglewood Forest” (Little Brown & Co.), a middle grade novel written by Charles de Lint featuring 76 paintings by Vess was released in 2013 to much critical acclaim and was followed a year later by, “Seven Wild Sisters”. Other books featuring his illustrations include: “Stardust – Being a Romance Within the Realm of Faerie”, “The Ladies of Grace Adieu” by Suzanna Clarke and four YA anthologies edited by Terri Windling and Ellen Datlow: “The Green Man”, “The Faery Reel”, “Coyote Road” & “The Beastly Bride”, and a collected edition of all six of Ursula Le Guin’s “Earthsea” novels.
