Faculty Position of Communication Arts – Visual Communications

Union University seeks a qualified individual for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Communication Arts in Visual Communications.

(80 miles northeast of Memphis) with additional campuses in Germantown and Hendersonville, Tenn. The Communications Arts Department is a vibrant and creative community with over 100 majors in Public Relations, Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Digital Media Communications, Speech, and Theater, as well as minors in Photojournalism and Film Studies. The department houses an active Public Relations Student Society of American (PRSSA) chapter, the Bulldog Communications Group student-run firm, the Cardinal & Cream campus news source, Jackson 24/7 live daily newscast, the Union University Debate Team, the Union Film Society and the Union University Players.

Position Description:

This position involves teaching courses in visual communication for a variety of majors. This position will also involve instructing students how to effectively use interactive and design software for a variety of communication projects.

Course assignments will include lower and upper level courses in digital photography, photojournalism, publication design, and interactive design. General faculty responsibilities will include student advising, committee assignments, and other responsibilities assigned by the departmental chair.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in communication is required. Preference will be given to applicants holding a Master of Fine Arts or a Ph.D. ABD candidates will be considered. Effective teaching experience, evidence of scholarly potential, and a passion for teaching are also required. Demonstrated professional experience related to visual communication, including photography and design, is required. Preference will also be given to candidates who can teach a wide variety of classes in mass and public communication
