The School of Media Arts & Design (SMAD) at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track or renewable-term assistant/associate professor position beginning in August 2015. Screening of applications will begin January 12, 2015 and continue until the position is filled.

SMAD provides one of the finest media production facilities in the country. Its media labs offer instructional workspace for creating graphics, animation, audio, video, websites and apps. SMAD has four concentrations: Converged/Interactive Media, Integrated Advertising and Corporate Communication, Digital Video and Cinema, and Journalism. Our faculty represents a blend of professional and academic interests. The School has more than 20 faculty members and approximately 600 undergraduate majors. We seek a student-oriented colleague with sophisticated design/aesthetic sensibilities (both web and print) and technical expertise to teach intermediate and advanced interactive media courses that include HTML and CSS. Additionally, candidates should have expertise with some combination of Javascript, content management systems, mobile development, user experience and emerging media. The candidate will contribute to the web design portion of our foundation course and will also be afforded the opportunity to teach other courses in her/his area of media expertise.

All SMAD faculty are engaged in teaching, service and research or creative activities. An MFA or Ph.D. is required for a tenure-track appointment; ABD applicants with the degree near completion will be considered. A master’s degree is required for a renewable-term appointment. Salary and rank are commensurate with education and experience.
