Program Director & Assistant Professor MFA Champlain College

Champlain College’s Division of Communication and Creative Media seeks an experienced and dedicated practitioner and educator to serve as the Program Director and Assistant Professor in Emergent Media. A teaching position with primary responsibilities associated with the refinement, management, and delivery of the College’s Master of Fine Arts and Master of Science programs in Emergent Media. Physically and programmatically embedded in Champlain College’s award winning Emergent Media Center and co-located with its MakerLab, the Masters’ programs represent a vital extension of the College’s groundbreaking efforts in experimentation, design, development, and management of innovative and emerging technology and communications forms.

The successful applicant will have an MFA or PHD in a relevant field and a deep understanding of the contemporary media landscape and/or an established creative practice-expertise in emergent media forms such as games, interactivity, the internet of things, the maker movement, social media, online communities and culture, mobile apps, networked communication, and user interface and user experience. The ideal candidate will be future focused, able to manage media production, work with clients, demonstrate an iterative approach towards building innovative solutions, and show versatility and systems thinking. Technology experience and comfort in scripting languages and/or programming languages is a plus. Applicants should have a deep desire to teach, and show a strong commitment to and evidence of successful teaching at the College level; interest in exploring new forms of technology and managing collaborative projects that can positively impact society; and a dedication to service on Division-wide and college-wide committees. A passion for and evidence of effectiveness working in a collaborative creative environment is a must.

As program director, the candidate must be able to represent the programs to internal and external groups and to lead marketing and recruitment efforts. Top candidates for the program director position should have strong evidence of course and curriculum development, academic advising, faculty management, and budget oversight.

The Masters in Emergent Media are programs with a mission to educate the creators, innovators, and design leaders in the field of interactive, participatory communications - an arena spawned by computational technologies, mobility, and global networks. The Emergent Media Center where the program is housed is a studio-based academic center whose mission is to educate and inspire next generation media creators and leaders. We support the talent and creativity of students to create interactive media, games, and mobile apps for positive change on a wide range of topics including social causes, health and medicine, business, communication, education, and training. Through a collaborative, exploratory design cycle, the EMC transforms education, processes, and media while enlightening our college community, our partners, and our global community.
