The purpose of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) is to facilitate collaboration among scholars, artists, and people in the industry all of whom share a common professional interest. In the iDMAa, this may be done in a number of ways: giving the SIG some control over the selection of conference workshops and panels in their area, helping them obtain outside sponsorship for SIG-focused events, and so on.
SIGs are integral parts of the larger organization and it is expected that each SIG will contribute back to the iDMAa by taking an active role in doing the work necessary to keep it running smoothly. This may mean contributing content items to the website, helping with various conference planning activities, or any of the other tasks required to keep a growing organization healthy and strong.
