Submission Guidelines
The Journal of The International Digital Media and Arts Association responds to the rapidly developing field of digital media and arts in a variety of settings—academic, educational, artistic, political, and social. The purpose of the journal is to promote awareness of this growing field and to prompt discussion about the issues that are a part of our increasingly digital world.
Journal Call 2013: “EAST IS East AND WEST IS West AND NEVER THE TWAIN SHALL MEET”
Drafts Deadline: May 31, 2013
To launch into 2013, IDMAA’s journal seeks articles that examine innovation in digital technology, digital media, digital art, or digital culture emerging from and/or focused on countries and cultures in Asia.
The countries and cultures of Asia are witnessing massive transformations in numerous domains, locally and nationally, as their citizens create and use digital technologies, media, and art. In addition, their practices are transforming cultural and social norms globally, contributing to the concept of a “world culture.” as a rich and vibrant source of art, culture and practices, this edition is looking for articles that identify and analyze changes that are occurring in the countries and cultures of Asia.
Topics might include but are not limited to:
- Culturally specific practices or works
- Transmedia storytelling
- Motion Comics
- Second-screen viewing
- Privacy in the 21st Century
- Citizen journalism
- Social media and activism
Please send drafts of articles, complete with references, to by May 31st, 2013.
In keeping with iDMAa’s mission of serving a wide range of educators, practitioners, scholars, and organizations with interests in digital media, contributors are encouraged to consider formats for their submissions that best suit the goal of the author. To that end, contributions can take one of the following formats: Traditional Peer-Reviewed Research Articles and Commentary and Criticism. Please see the following guidelines for each category.
1) Traditional Peer-Reviewed Research Articles
Authors interested in peer-review should indicate this with their submission.
- Please provide author identification on the title page only. This title page should also include: the complete title, your postal address, email address, and phone number.
- If the article refers to the author in any way, please provide an alternative moniker for the purposes of blind review.
- A second page should consist of a 75-100 word abstract.
- Please be sure to utilize page numbering.
- Peer-reviewed articles are expected to be at least 15 pages long, and no longer than 25 (double-spaced)—including a final section with notes and references.
- Notes and references should appear at the end of the article, double-spaced.
- Please follow the current Chicago Manual of Style.
- Submit your document in rich text format.
2) Commentary and Criticism
Commentary and Criticism contributors are encouraged to push the boundaries of the traditional; the journal will consider interviews, opinion pieces and editorials, reviews of books, articles, and digital media artwork, etc., as well as shorter academic and scholarly articles. Authors interested in non-peer-reviewed contributions should indicate this with their submission.
- The title page should include: author’s name, the complete title, your postal address, email address, and phone number.
- Please be sure to utilize page numbering.
- Commentary and Criticism articles should be at least 5 pages long, and no longer than 15 (double-spaced)—including a final section with notes and references.
- Notes and references should appear at the end of the article, double-spaced.
- Please follow the current Chicago Manual of Style.
- Submit your document in rich text format.
All authors should send full electronic versions of their article to Dr. Sharon Ross, Associate Editor, at: . The electronic attachment should be in rich text (.rtf). Please include in a separate document a 75-100 word bio.
NOTE: The journal publishes two times a year. A second annual issue features material presented at the annual fall conference and this issue is typically released the following spring. We also, at times, run themed issues. For examples of past work, see our current journal and archive of past journals.
