iDMAa 2013: Fast Forward (#idmaa2013)

The eleventh annual International Digital Media and Arts Association Conference will be held November 6-8, 2013 in Laguna Beach, CA, at the Laguna College of Art and Design. While we welcome conference papers and projects focusing on “the future,” we are equally interested in papers and projects that question and subvert the idea of what lies before us. From disruptive technologies to neo-luddite practices, the conference wants to examine all sides of our unquestioning inclination to privilege “progress” and to look forward. Summed up, this year’s conference theme is:

iDMAa invites you to share your thoughts and work in digital media and arts.

Preferred Topics:

The conference will contain several tracks of programming in the areas of art and design, education, narrative, and media practices. Preferred topics include:

Requirements For conference papers (See Deadlines Below):

  1. Submit your abstract (maximum 500 words) online (http://www.formstack.com/landing/9100). Panel proposals should be submitted as one file.
  2. All abstracts should follow the formatting conventions found in the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (documentary note), include keywords and a bio (maximum 100 words).
  3. All abstracts will be refereed for acceptance and should report on the results of creative or research projects that explore innovative areas of new media. These abstracts will be posted as is on the conference website.Authors will be notified via email of their submissions’ status. For planning purposes, authors are asked to confirm their attendance.
  4. In preparation for conference presentations, we ask that presentation decks conform to 20 slides, 20 seconds per slide format. (See Pechakucha for more information). Authors interested in organizing panels will need to submit single word file containing an abstract and vita for each panel participant.
  5. To be reviewed for possible publication in the conference proceedings issue of The Journal of the International Digital Media and Arts Association, accepted papers of no more than 3500 words must be submitted in their final form (as a word document using your last name in the file name) by December 21. ART ESSAYS

In addition to submitting art (See IDEAS_13), we invite art essays that address the conference theme. These will be published online with the conference materials and a few selected works will be published in the iDMAa journal. Abstracts should be submitted using the Chicago Manual of Style. Specific essay details can be found on the Call For Papers Page.

  1. Submit your abstract and essay online as a word document (file should use .doc extension) by September 1st. All authors participating in the conference will have their abstract posted in the online conference proceedings. Abstracts and essays must be formatted according to Chicago Manual Style.
  2. Authors will be notified via email of acceptance by approximately September 15th
  3. Authors should confirm attendance by October 12.
  4. Final versions of all accepted essays must be sent in by December 21 to be reviewed for possible publication in The Journal of the International Digital Media and Arts Association.
