iDMAa 2021: Broken Media

Conference and Exhibition June 24-27, 2021

Winona State University, Winona, Minnesota, USA

Theme

This year’s iDMAa Conference, Exhibition, and Workshop will be focused on the theme “Broken Media” and all that entails—Hacking, Cracking, Glitching, Bending, Dysfunction, Preservation, Remediation, Reform, Exploitation, Activism—all possible interpretations are under consideration! This year, we are especially interested in making the conference accessible and interesting for students. Our goal is an energetic experience that brings students, faculty, and professionals together to ponder what it means to be “militantly marginal” in a post-digital world.

Conference Cost: $200, $150 for past iDMAa attendees, $50 for students.

Submissions

Submissions Deadline Passed.

For standard papers and talks, the deadline for 500-word abstracts or panel proposals is January 25, 2021. Individual presentations are limited to 10 minutes of presentation, with prepared notes distributed in advance, to encourage lively discussion. Panel sessions are limited to 40 minutes, also with notes in advance, followed by discussion. As usual, we are interested in our customary mix of academic research articles, philosophical discussions, artist talks, and practice-based professional approaches, all in dialogue with the conference theme. Please send abstracts and proposals for peer-review to papers@idmaa.org.

Developmental Sessions

Submissions Deadline Passed.

Developmental sessions are actively encouraged. 500-word abstracts are due by February 15th, 2021. These sessions will focus on topics of relevance to (and/or presented by) new attendees to iDMAa, especially undergraduate students, early career artists and professionals, entrepreneurs, and people who are exploring unconventional paths in digital media and arts. We want to establish a space for aspiring digital media and arts practitioners to explore, question, and rethink professionalization, study, practice, careers, exhibition, distribution, social engagement, and other aspects of labor in the 21st century. Please send abstracts and proposals for peer-review to papers@idmaa.org.
